Chapter 27 Breeding Team
Chapter 27 Breeding Team
The air conditioning in the supermarket had long been turned off, and a strong, putrid smell filled the air.
The shelves were crisscrossed, and many of the goods on them were still there.
The outermost shelves were filled with rows of bottled water and canned goods.
The escalator was stuck halfway down, with several pieces of bloodstained, torn clothing hanging on it.
The bearded man stepped through the broken sensor door first, carefully avoiding the shards of glass.
Behind the counter, three zombies dressed in red overalls were gnawing on something, making gurgling sounds in their throats.
Inside the supermarket, zombies were everywhere you looked.
The survivors had not looted all the supplies in this place because of the dense horde of corpses.
The bearded man raised his hand, pointing to the three zombies nearby.
Chen Yang held his breath, tiptoed, and circled around to the back of a zombie.
The quiet woman and the bearded man also took their places.
Wu Xia and the young man stood not far away, holding their breath and not daring to make a sound.
The bearded man made a gesture.
The three men swung their knives, and the heads of three zombies fell to the ground.
After removing the crystal core from the brain, the bearded man gestured for the two to return to their original positions.
"There are too many zombies here. Should we retreat? The chances of us being surrounded are too high," the quiet woman said.
The man with the thick beard nodded first, then shook his head.
"Although there are many zombies, there are also plenty of supplies here. With our strength, as long as we are careful, we can take enough supplies and leave without any major problems."
The quiet woman frowned.
Chen Yang stood to the side, his expression unchanged.
Wu Xia looked at Chen Yang. The young man remained silent, following closely behind the others.
All eyes fell on Chen Yang.
Chen Yang looked up and glanced at the dense horde of zombies in the distance.
"Take the supplies before you leave."
He wanted to get to the shelter as soon as possible to test the extent to which the zombie virus improved his physical abilities, so he didn't want to linger on the road.
The quiet woman's brows remained furrowed, and she did not speak again.
"Alright, let's get started."
The bearded man looked at the other two. "You two stay here and don't make a sound. The three of us will go in and gather supplies. Any objections?"
No one answered.
The bearded man lowered his hand, gesturing for someone to move forward.
Chen Yang and Wen Jing followed behind him, and the three of them walked deeper into the supermarket.
"Hey bro, my name's Liang Yi. Do you have any spots left in your team? Can I join?"
Liang Yi, with his thick beard, spoke as he walked.
Having witnessed the force with which Chen Yang slayed the zombies, he concluded that Chen Yang was extremely powerful.
Even someone as experienced as him felt the urge to seek refuge here. After all, the chances of survival in a place like the Infinite Game were too low, so attaching himself to a strong person was the best course of action.
The quiet woman turned her head to the side, and although she did not speak, her gaze was fixed on Chen Yang's face.
"There's definitely a spot available," Chen Yang said calmly, "but I can tell you're a veteran player; your strength should be pretty good on level 0, right?"
Liang Yi looked directly into Chen Yang's eyes:
"Xiao Song and I belong to the first tier of level 0, but the cruelty of the game is beyond imagination."
I don't know where you got so much extraordinary equipment, but the fact that you dare to show it off in front of people shows that you have absolute confidence in your strength and are not afraid of killing and stealing treasures.
Following you, I'll most likely have a better chance of surviving than if I tried to survive on my own.
"You know her?" Chen Yang turned to look at the woman called Xiao Song.
"Yes, we've met quite a few times in dungeons. We're practically acquaintances. My name is Song Bailing." Song Bailing took a half step closer and took the initiative to start the conversation.
"You want to join my team too?" Chen Yang asked, looking at her.
Song Bailing nodded, her expression calm.
"It's not impossible, but you'll need to give me 20% of the profits from each instance. Is that acceptable?"
Chen Yang spoke casually. He had no interest in getting involved in things that didn't benefit him.
The two fell silent.
After a long pause, Song Bailing finally spoke: "I'll think about it."
She turned to look at Liang Yi.
Liang Yi shook his head and looked away: "I guess I misjudged you. Let's focus on the mission."
Liang Yi's face darkened.
He had clearly experienced some terrible events in his past, and he showed a strong resistance to the exploitative practices of the breeding team that squeezed his teammates' profits.
Chen Yang realized that Liang Yi had mistaken him for a leader of a purely exploitative breeding team, but he did not explain.
The three continued deeper into the area. When they encountered zombies that they couldn't avoid, they silently killed them.
Avoid disturbing anything that can be avoided.
Soon after, the three returned and reunited with Wu Xia and the young man.
Song Bailing now had a radio, several batteries, and a local map in her hands.
She knew very well that wandering around aimlessly like a headless fly was not a long-term solution.
After leaving the supermarket and clearing out the scattered zombies in the vicinity, the five people took refuge in a street-facing shop to rest temporarily.
Chen Yang stood by the door, his gaze fixed on the roaming horde of corpses outside the window.
Song Bailing moved closer to Wu Xia and lowered her voice, "Little sister, I have something I want to ask you. Do you have time?"
With a mental attribute of 59 points, Chen Yang's five senses are extremely sharp, and no slight movement around him can escape his ears.
He did not intend to interfere as long as the other party did not threaten Wu Xia's safety.
At the other end of the room, Liang Yi and the young man sat side by side on a chair, repeatedly adjusting the knobs of a radio.
The magnetic heads searched through the radio waves, trying to pick up any information about human settlements from the noise.
Song Bailing pulled Wu Xia to sit in a corner inside the shop, keeping her distance from Liang Yi and the other person.
"Little sister, I've noticed you've been following him. Are you a friend he knew before he entered the dungeon?"
Song Bailing lowered her voice, her gaze sweeping back and forth across Wu Xia's face. She wanted to find out more about Chen Yang, especially since the 20% profit offer was causing her considerable distress.
Wu Xia glanced at Chen Yang's retreating figure by the door, then looked away and stared at Song Bailing: "We knew each other before, why are you asking about this?"
"It's nothing, I just wanted to find out what kind of people my teammates are..."
Song Bailing made up an excuse. Wu Xia looked at her and felt that this woman wasn't telling the truth.
"His character is hard to describe in a single sentence, but he's not a bad person."
Wu Xia did not reveal much information.
Song Bailing repeated, "Isn't he some kind of bad person?"
She lowered her eyes and stopped speaking. After a while, she looked up and smiled: "Thank you for telling me all this."
"Well, whatever makes you happy." Wu Xia found this woman strange and didn't want to talk about it further.
Wu Xia got up and returned to Chen Yang's side. Song Bailing remained seated, watching Chen Yang's retreating figure.
"This is...where...we...Ye Gonglu..."
Intermittent static and human voices came from the radio.
"Received it! Received the broadcast!"
The young man suddenly stood up and shouted. Liang Yi quickly reached out and covered his mouth, hissing, "Shut up! Do you want to get us killed?!"
The young man's expression changed, his hand froze in mid-air, realizing he had caused trouble. Just as he was about to apologize, Chen Yang's voice came from the doorway.
"Get ready, the zombies are coming."
Chen Yang stood by the door, slightly turned to the side, and called out to the people inside in a low voice.
Upon hearing this, Liang Yi's eyes darted around, and he glared fiercely at the young man.
