Chapter 26 Dungeon: Zombie Apocalypse
Chapter 26 Dungeon: Zombie Apocalypse
Zhang Xiaolan stared at the rope in Chen Yang's hand, her expression strange: "A rope? This is only one dungeon, and you guys are already playing these fancy tricks?"
Her face was full of gossip, her eyes darting back and forth between Chen Yang and Wu Xia, secretly imagining things.
"Come on, let's go inside." Chen Yang waved to Wu Xia.
Wu Xia remained silent and followed behind Chen Yang.
"Hey, you guys teamed up?" Zhang Xiaolan asked suspiciously.
"Yes." Wu Xia nodded.
"Can you take me with you? I almost got killed in the last dungeon." Zhang Xiaolan patted her chest, still shaken.
"No way," Chen Yang refused.
"Then why did you bring her along? Are you two really dating?" Zhang Xiaolan glared at Wu Xia angrily.
Chen Yang shrugged: "She gives me 20% of the profits from each instance. If you can do it, I'll help you too. Herding one sheep is the same as herding two."
Zhang Xiaolan was stunned: "You mean, a breeding team?"
"Any objections?"
"No...no, not at all." Zhang Xiaolan shook her head repeatedly.
"Will you come?"
Zhang Xiaolan continued to shake her head.
"Let's go." Chen Yang said no more and led Wu Xia toward the teleportation point.
Looking at the two figures from behind, Zhang Xiaolan felt they resembled a slave owner and a slave. Although she felt uncomfortable, she didn't speak up or intervene when she saw that Wu Xia remained silent.
A flash of white light appeared at the teleportation point.
Chen Yang and Wu Xia disappeared.
When they opened their eyes, they found themselves in a dilapidated room. Besides them, there were three other people in the room.
There are five people in total.
[Instance: Zombie Apocalypse]
Number of people: 5
Difficulty: F level
[Completion Requirements: Complete the mission]
[Completion Rewards: Basic Score Reward: 1000, F-Rank Equipment Chest x1.]
[Mission (Phase 1): Proceed to the human settlement.]
As soon as the system notification sounded, Wu Xia drew her machete and held it horizontally across her chest.
Of the three people opposite, one of the young men shrank back and exclaimed in surprise, "Holy crap, lady, calm down!"
The other two then drew their weapons.
Chen Yang scanned the entire room, his brows furrowing slightly.
This isn't a beginner's dungeon; it should be full of experienced players, but this young man is behaving like a complete naiveté.
"Cooperative dungeons are unnecessary."
The bearded man sheathed his machete; it was an instinctive reaction.
Wu Xia looked at Chen Yang, and seeing him nod, she sheathed her blade. The other woman with a quiet demeanor also stopped.
The bearded man walked to the window, looked at the horde of zombies thronging the street, and said:
"Discuss the distribution first, then proceed. Whoever kills the zombies gets the crystal cores. Once we've agreed, we'll head out and find a settlement before nightfall."
Chen Yang asked, "Have you been to this instance before?"
"I've seen the intelligence." The bearded man turned around:
"Zombies have crystal cores in their brains, which can be exchanged for points at the exchange. Finishing blows don't count. If there are no objections, start scavenging for food and water."
He pushed open the door and stepped out first.
Chen Yang took out the Vampire Sword, put on the Cursed Gloves and the Ominous Mask, and whispered to Wu Xia, "Stay close to me."
The young man stared at Chen Yang's gear and exclaimed, "Dude, where did you get that? You look really cool!"
"Shut up. If you attract zombies, I'll throw you out first."
The quiet woman rebuked him in a low, cold voice.
The youth fell silent.
Chen Yang was secretly alarmed; this young man was a potential threat. The quiet woman glanced at Chen Yang a few more times, pondering the origin of his equipment.
Everyone left the room, leaving the living room empty. The bearded man gestured, then quietly walked towards the bedroom, pushing open a corner of the door.
"roar……"
The roar inside the room was low and menacing.
The bearded man held his breath, slowed his movements, and the door slid open silently.
The zombie inside had its back to the door and was facing the room where everyone had just been.
Everyone held their breath.
The bearded man tiptoed up behind him, swung his knife, and severed the corpse's head.
The quiet woman approached, watching the bearded man pick out the crystal core, and calmly said:
"It didn't react at the door just now. This type of zombie relies on hearing, not smell."
The bearded man turned around and saw Chen Yang's gear. Like the quiet woman, he looked at Chen Yang intently.
But he didn't say anything.
Soon, the group finished exploring the remaining rooms and found no other zombies inside.
So everyone scattered and looted, leaving the house in disarray, and they obtained very few supplies.
Watching the two men's practiced movements, Chen Yang pondered whether he should take Wu Xia away from the team and go solo.
His peripheral vision swept over the zombie corpses, and a thought occurred to him:
What changes would occur to one's constitution if bitten by this thing?
He immediately suppressed his thoughts. There were too many people around, and it would be easy to be exposed. He would wait until they reached a human settlement before making any plans.
The bearded man beckoned everyone to gather around, then pulled out a few tattered rags from a corner and threw them on the table.
"Take your weapon and tie the handle to your hand with strips of cloth to prevent it from slipping out of your hand."
As he wrapped his machete around his neck, he surveyed the crowd: "No talking once we're outside. Don't speak unless absolutely necessary. Keep the formation tight, don't fall behind. Anything else to add?"
Chen Yang and the others exchanged glances and all shook their heads.
The bearded man walked in front, gently turning the handle of the security door and pushing it open a crack.
The corridor was dimly lit, and the air was filled with a putrid stench.
He first peered around to check, and after confirming that everything was alright, he waved back.
Chen Yang followed closely behind, holding the Bloodsucking Sword horizontally in his hand. Wu Xia was close behind him, her palms sweaty.
The quiet woman and the young man covered their retreat.
The group moved down the stairs, hugging the wall.
Footsteps fell on the concrete, barely audible.
Half a skeleton lay across the corner on the second floor, with dried black and red bloodstains on the wall.
The bearded man stepped over the wreckage, his toes landing with extreme lightness.
The young man tripped as he passed by, his leather shoes hitting the edge of the steps with a soft sound.
Chen Yang stopped abruptly, turning back to give the young man a cold, sidelong glance. The young man's face turned deathly pale, and he covered his mouth tightly with both hands.
A few minutes later, the group arrived at the unit door on the first floor.
The bearded man peered through the broken glass in the door. On the street, seven or eight zombies were wandering aimlessly, some dragging severed limbs, others with half their faces reduced to bones.
Sunlight shone on the broken glass and abandoned vehicles scattered on the ground, reflecting a blinding light.
He took a deep breath, pushed open the unit door, and slipped out.
Chen Yang followed closely behind, his eyes beneath the mask calmly scanning the undersides of abandoned cars and the corners of the roadside.
The streets were deserted, with the faint roars of zombies echoing from afar.
The bearded man crouched low, using the rows of cars along the roadside as cover, and moved towards the supermarket across the street.
Apart from Chen Yang, the other three looked tense and breathed very softly.
Although the bearded man and the quiet woman were skilled, as level 0 players, their strength was ultimately limited. Once surrounded by the horde of zombies, escape would be extremely difficult.
Suddenly, the bearded man raised his right hand, his five fingers clenched together.
The crowd understood and quickly moved closer to him. He leaned down, his voice low and menacing: "See that supermarket across the street?"
Everyone looked over the roof of the abandoned car and nodded in unison.
"We don't know where the gathering point is, and this amount of supplies won't last long."
The bearded man pointed to the open glass door of the supermarket. "We have to go in and search everything. If there are no objections, let's go."
He looked around. Chen Yang was expressionless, and Wu Xia tightened her grip on the knife.
Seeing that no one objected, the bearded man lowered his body again, stayed close to the edge of the car, and led the way to sneak towards the supermarket entrance.
