Chapter 83: Jungler Sofm
Chapter 83: Jungler Sofm
After finishing the first training match in the afternoon on the second day, Chen Song did not go out for dinner with everyone, but instead sat alone in front of the computer.
The training room was unusually quiet after the training match ended. Chen Song rubbed his slightly sore eyes and saw the figures of two commentators on the screen, namely Yu Tong and Che Xiao.
That's right, there's an LPL match tonight at 5 PM, with LNG and LGD facing off.
Chen Song deliberately skipped dinner for today's match and sat in front of his computer to watch the live stream right on time.
Chen Song was quite curious about LNG.
You say he's weak? He beat IG last time.
You say he's strong? And the coach is Zhu Kai.
Chen Song was particularly impressed by LNG's top laner and jungler. He said that the reason IG lost last time was largely due to their top laner and jungler being crushed.
As he stared at the screen, the ceiling light was turned on.
"Chen Song, why aren't you coming over for dinner? You don't even turn on the lights. What are you doing sitting in front of the computer all by yourself?"
Mafa's voice came from the doorway, carrying a takeout bag: "I brought you some fried rice, the auntie is almost closing up shop."
Chen Song took the lunchbox, his eyes still glued to the screen: "Thanks. Could you help me find the data sheet for the IG vs. LNG match last time? I sent it to Karam, but the data is gone."
"Data table? It's with me. You need..." Mafa leaned closer to look at the screen, then suddenly realized, "Oh, so that's why you didn't come to dinner with us. What were you doing here all this time, figuring out how to take down your old employer?"
"Let's figure out how to win back." Chen Song opened his lunchbox, his tone calm: "I've been very curious about Ueno ever since we lost last time. Let's compare the data together today."
Mafa chuckled and turned to turn on his computer: "No problem, I'll send it to you right away. But Chen Song, you're a former tactical analyst for my old company, and now you're turning against them... doesn't that count as...?"
"That's a very good professional attitude." Chen Song interrupted him, "Coach Mafa, how come I never knew you were such a gossip?"
After sending the data to Chen Song, Mafa took a bottle of iced cola from the refrigerator and handed it to Chen Song. Then, she plopped down in Ning's seat and said, "I'm just really curious. You know, most people, even if they leave a job, will still have some feelings for their previous job. But it seems like you don't have any feelings at all."
"Hey Coach Mafa, you've been kicked out of the company, do you still have any feelings for him?"
Chen Song's words made Mafa chuckle awkwardly. He thought for a moment and said, "What I mean is, when you were with LNG, didn't you have any players you were particularly close to?"
"Are they players with whom you have a particularly good relationship?"
Chen Song said thoughtfully, "No, actually you know very well what the tactical analyst does. As a member of the coaching staff, they spend most of their time reporting to the head coach and have very little direct communication with the players."
"It goes without saying that when we were at LNG, Zhu Kai usually assigned me the task of finding good takeout on Xiaohuangshu (a Chinese social networking site) and reading people's reviews."
"One day I couldn't stand it anymore, so I went to his office and mentioned it, and then you know what happened."
Mafa opened a can of Coke, took a sip, and said, "Seriously? I remember when you first joined IG, as a tactical analyst, you often chatted with TheShy and Ning, didn't you?"
"That was just a brief chat about the game, not regular communication." Chen Song turned to look at Mafa. "My daily routine is to watch replays, analyze opponents' habits, collect data, write reports, and then hand them over to Zhu Kai. How Zhu Kai communicates these to the players is his business. If the players have any ideas, they talk to him first, and then he relays them to me. There's practically a wall between us; how close do you think we can really be?"
Of course, this was made up by Chen Song. After all, Mafa had never been to LNG and didn't know the specifics. He couldn't tell Mafa that he had actually traveled from another time, so he could only make things up.
Mafa nodded thoughtfully.
"Besides, it's inappropriate for tactical analysts to get too close to the players."
Chen Song turned his gaze back to the screen, where Yu Tong and Che Xiao were analyzing the situation of the two teams: "You gave one player a little too much advice. What will the others think? If you give them private lessons like this, where does the head coach's authority stand? So I've been keeping going, making sure to write down what needs to be said in the report, and not saying anything that shouldn't be said."
"No wonder you left so decisively." Mafa smiled. "There wasn't even anyone to have a farewell dinner with."
"There's nothing to lose." Chen Song put a mouthful of fried rice in his mouth, chewed it a couple of times, and said, "I get paid to work, I finish my work and leave, clean and tidy. But you are."
He glanced at Mafa: "You've been on IG for so long, if you leave someday, won't you feel bad?"
Mafa choked on his cola and coughed twice, saying, "Stop cursing me."
Chen Song smiled and said, "Seriously, what do you think of LNG Ueno?"
There's still a long time before BP, and we're just waiting anyway. Since Mafa is here, we might as well talk to him about LNG.
Mafa pondered: "Their top and jungle are relatively strong players, and LNG relies heavily on Sofm's performance. If Sofm plays well, they are more likely to win."
Chen Song listened and nodded: "I really didn't expect that such a small place like Vietnam would produce such a powerful jungler. It's quite rare."
Before playing against LNG last time, Chen Song had looked at their player profiles and was particularly impressed with Sofm.
He also read everyone's comments, saying that Sofm is a very strong jungler, and has the potential to become the king of junglers in the LPL.
Chen Song could only smile at this. He had seen too many players who were impressive when they first debuted. These players could make amazing plays because they hadn't been studied carefully when they first debuted. But once they were figured out, their presence in the game would decrease instantly.
Take TheShy, for example. He's in a similar situation, but their approach is to figure out how to catch him.
"I still vividly remember his wild and unruly performance when he first entered the competition."
Mafa gestured as he spoke, indicating that he was a master.
Chen Song responded calmly, "Has this feeling decreased a lot now, or rather, Sofm's counter-jungling is happening less and less?"
Mafa nodded.
"No player can play like that forever, unless the opponent is too weak. Once an LPL team has experienced a match like this, all LPL teams will quickly make adjustments for the next match, or rather, carefully study that player."
"When TheShy first debuted, his performance was quite impressive, right? However, top lane and jungle are different. You can observe a few games to understand a player's habits, but top lane is much more difficult. Each hero has its own way of playing, and the details of laning are hard to explain, even if you do explain them, they are hard to understand."
"It's like TheShy sitting next to you teaching you how to play top lane. When he tells you to kite, you do hear him, but when you actually do it, it's a completely different story."
