Chapter 7 Encounter
Chapter 7 Encounter
I've disgraced the Ashen Ones. After running through the forest for a while and making sure that thing behind me wasn't following, Li Wei was secretly heartbroken. As an Ashen One, if I can't tear and chew up undead and the like, what kind of Ashen One am I?
But that thing is immune to physical attacks, and Li Wei doesn't even know how to use the Light spell. It's not a matter of whether he's afraid or not, it's that he really can't handle it!
Li Wei still wanted to retain his useful body to make some contributions to the world, of course, for a very long time.
Although I don't know why I came to the Witcher world, it's still much better than Turkey Factory, which feels like the world is about to die at any moment. And linking the fire is none of my business as a transmigrator.
Li Wei didn't think he was that great, that he would burn himself to death upon meeting someone in order to save the world.
Having made up his mind to find a place in this world to make a living, Li Wei chose a direction in the jungle and walked straight there.
Getting lost is never a problem for Ash; he won't starve.
He finally emerged from the forest at dusk and came to a dirt road. The road was pitch black, and he didn't plan to continue walking. He simply sat down under a tree that looked nice to him, hugged his weapon, and pretended to doze off.
In the early morning, before dawn, dewdrops slid off the knight's fingertips and dripped onto the ground.
Li Wei stared blankly at the spot where the dew had disappeared, feeling a sense of desolation, as if he had drawn his sword and looked around in bewilderment.
He shook his head, realizing he was just bored out of his mind, wallowing in self-pity. Did he own a house? Did he own a horse? Did he get his household registration settled? Or had he caught the "disheartened brother" syndrome?
He cursed himself under his breath, got up, dusted himself off, and continued walking down the road.
I set myself a small goal: the first thing to do is to find a way to make money and get myself a place to live.
A moment later, the creaking of hooves and the sound of horses' hooves rang out. Li Wei glanced back and saw a magnificent carriage and several cavalrymen wearing pot-lid helmets, leather armor, and chainmail.
Local nobles? Li Wei only glanced at them before continuing to walk along the road.
Li Wei's appearance only made the guards slightly wary, because they were carrying crossbows, while Li Wei was only wearing gauntlets and leg armor, so he was not considered a threat to them.
But as the two sides were exchanging goods, the curtains on the carriage were lifted, and a pair of clear eyes fixed on Li Wei.
Especially when looking at Li Weina's skin color and face, which were completely different from those of the people around him, his curiosity was almost overflowing.
Li Wei recognized that look; it was the look of a silly deer, the kind you see everywhere in college.
The unscrupulous bosses in the original factory love this kind of person the most: they come in with clear eyes and leave with a smug look on their face.
Thinking back to his youthful days, Li Wei couldn't help but feel a little sentimental.
Perhaps it was Li Wei's melancholy eyes, his disheveled appearance with incomplete equipment, or his lack of timidity when encountering a nobleman's carriage, but rather his air of "I have a story, do you have some wine?"
She successfully attracted the silly roe deer in front of her, and all that could be heard was a clear female voice.
"Uncle Rhodes, wait a minute, I'd like to have a word with this gentleman."
"Miss, this isn't your castle or fiefdom. It's not safe. The master is still waiting for us."
"There are so many of us, what are we afraid of? We'll just chat for a bit and then leave."
"...It's up to you."
The carriage slowed down, the curtains were completely lifted, and a blonde girl poked her head out. She had delicate features and would be considered a pretty girl even by modern standards.
"Sir, you're not from any of these nearby countries, are you? Where do you come from?"
Li Wei glanced at it and roughly estimated that if he struck with his sword, the little head would probably fly several meters away.
However, Li Wei doesn't mind if someone is willing to talk to him for a bit; he considers it a spice in his journey.
"Yes, I am from an exploration mission from Aurora, not from here."
He glanced at his equipment and his clothes, which were now almost tattered and in pieces.
"I encountered a storm at sea, and who knows where I ended up. After being rescued, I continued to wander, and then another series of misfortunes befell me. Now, I'm probably a down-on-his-luck mercenary."
When you're out in the world, you give yourself your identity. If you make up a cool one, you won't have to kneel before nobles like the common people here. Li Wei's knees are hard; he can't kneel down.
"Aurora? I've never heard of it. Is it a country overseas?"
"Otherwise, it's too far from here anyway, and I can't go back."
An old man peeked out from where the coachman was in front of the carriage, looking at Li Wei warily and asking a question.
"An embassy? I've never heard of any other country's embassy. And you're all alone, without a horse? Where's your luggage? A wandering mercenary with nothing?"
Are you kidding me?
Without hesitation, Li Wei pointed towards the forest and said, feigning annoyance.
"This brings me to my bad luck. I was passing by an abandoned farm in the forest and decided to rest for a while when I encountered a daytime spirit. My luggage was completely lost, and my breastplate was gone too. I'm lucky I even managed to escape."
Anyway, the daytime demons are real. Even a master witcher would be caught off guard by such a morbid thing, and no unlucky soul would dare to investigate it. So what Li Wei said must be true.
The girl gasped in surprise.
"Daytime spirits, do they really exist?"
Li Wei shrugged at the girl, glanced at the old man, and described the appearance of the demon spirit during the day.
"Yes, that thing is hideous. Its chin to throat is exposed, with a long tongue hanging out, and the upper half of its face looks like a burned skull, floating in the air and slowly twisting."
The exposed ribs and rotting organs were a nightmare.
"Oh my god! Perhaps we should go and eliminate that monster to prevent it from harming the nearby people. Sergeant Kara, you said you've eliminated something like this before, right?"
"Cough cough."
One of the cavalrymen coughed awkwardly twice, managing to utter a single sentence.
"My most important task now is to escort you, Miss, to see the lord."
"When we get back, I'll tell my father and have you take a few men to eliminate that thing."
A fleeting smile crossed the faces of those around him, who looked at the guy who had been bragging in the tavern without thinking, boasting in front of the ladies. Now he's in for a world of hurt.
Even a fool would understand what was going on with this commotion. The girl rolled her eyes at Sergeant Kara, then looked at Li Wei with shining eyes.
"So, sir, have you encountered many monsters on your journey?"
Li Wei could rattle off names without hesitation. After all, as an excellent demon hunter, he had seen all sorts of weird and wonderful things, including Captain, A-Tui, Master, Commander, Azure Star, and the Rata Thief Saint.
Whether it's a local product or not, they can explain it all clearly.
Convincing a sheltered young girl is a piece of cake, and even these guards, whom Li Wei could easily fool, were all bumpkins who had never traveled more than a hundred miles in their entire lives.
"There are many kinds of monsters. You mean the local kind? Let me tell you a story about a bridge-building troll."
"A troll who can build bridges?"
"Yes, a troll that builds bridges and collects tolls, and a stone troll at that."
