Chapter 103 Poison in the Mind Network
Jian flew around in mid-air, loudly cheering on Xin An below.
"Go Xin'an! Help me flatten them! (o_day_cold)"
However, things weren't so easy for Xin'an.
As she wielded the spear, she indeed felt immense pressure.
This pack of mutant dire wolves possessed more than just the extraordinary ability of invisibility. They coordinated perfectly, advancing and retreating with perfect timing, gradually wearing down her stamina while she couldn't find an opportunity to strike.
After several exchanges, she was unable to make an effective breakthrough.
Even Jane, who was hiding in the sky, could see the tense situation.
It was somewhat impatient, and several beams of divine power shot out from the iron box in succession.
The light shone on the pack of beasts, and although the white wolves nimbly dodged it, it briefly disrupted their formation.
Xin An seized the opening, thrusting his spear forward and piercing the throat of a dire wolf before it could react.
The white wolf fell to the ground and died.
But before she could put her gun away, new figures from the wolf pack filled the gap left by the dead, and the encirclement remained tight, even showing signs of advancing amidst the chaos.
We must break this deadlock.
Xin'an stepped forward to face the two white wolves that were charging at him.
The white wolf on her left bit her shoulder.
She didn't dodge, taking the blow head-on, letting the sharp teeth pierce her shoulder armor. Just as she was bitten, Xin An exerted force with her right hand, and the spear, imbued with dark golden inner fire, thrust diagonally upwards.
The spearhead precisely sliced open the white wolf's jaw on the right, flames poured in through the wound, burning its brain to ashes and extinguishing its life.
Trade wounds for wounds, then kill another one.
Xin An repelled the beast on his left and turned to prepare for the attack from behind.
Turning around, he saw Jane already in the wolf's mouth.
An invisible white wolf suddenly leaped into the air and bit the metal box that was flying around.
A teardrop pattern lit up on the screen, and Jane looked at herself with a tearful expression. (T_T)
Fortunately, its shell is tough enough.
The white wolf's teeth kept slipping on the metal, but it couldn't budge the beast in the slightest. Stuck in its mouth and unable to swallow, the beast could only shake its head back and forth.
Jane was thrown around so violently that she screamed and yelled.
"Help! I'm going to throw up from all the shaking! (@@:)"
Seeing this, Xin An felt much more at ease.
For the time being, I don't need to worry about Jane's safety and can focus on the battle at hand.
She pushed off with her feet, thrusting her spear forward, attempting to force her way through the encirclement.
Several white wolves stood in front of her, blocking her path.
The dark golden heartfire spread outwards. But these ferocious beasts were completely unafraid of the flames. They had long studied the abilities of the Xin Clan, and their pure white fur seemed to insulate against the high temperatures, preventing the flames from adhering to their bodies.
Naturally, it cannot cause harm.
Just when the two sides were deadlocked.
The dire wolf carrying Jane stopped moving and made a strange sound from its throat.
"Jane—loyalty, and vague syllables echoed in the night."
Xin An was stunned.
The surrounding white wolves also stopped attacking and turned to look at their companions.
The dire wolf opened its mouth and spat the metal box onto the ground. Immediately afterward, its abdomen heaved violently as it vomited large amounts of gas.
Dark red mucus mixed with worms was spat out, and by sheer coincidence, it hit Jane's face.
"Ugh! How disgusting! (TVT)"
Jane ignored everything else, the terrified emoticons flashing on the screen, and rolled far away in shock.
This dire wolf can actually speak human language. Is their learning ability really that strong?
But after spitting out the worm, the beast showed no further abnormalities. The worm served as an organ for the dire wolf, and now that it had vomited it out, it had exhausted all its life force. Its massive body became weak, and it finally collapsed to the ground, lifeless.
The surrounding dire wolves were terrified.
They couldn't understand why their companion had suddenly died. The herd instinctively retreated, terrified of the slimy metal box on the ground, believing that Jane had used some unknown means.
No wolf dared to approach Jane again.
Xin An seized the opportunity, thrusting out his spear and closing in on the nearest white wolf.
Unexpectedly, the dire wolf's reaction time was noticeably slower. The spear tip easily pierced its neck.
Xin An drew his weapon in confusion and looked up.
The remaining dire wolves fell from their cloaked state one after another. Pure white figures appeared one after another in the firelight.
They all opened their mouths in unison, vomiting out the parasitic worms inside their bodies. Then, following in the footsteps of their companions, they collapsed one after another, slowly dying in convulsions.
A deathly silence fell outside the temple.
There were only wolf carcasses scattered on the ground, and worms that were too weak to move after losing their host.
"Jane, what have you done?" Xin'an asked, gripping the spear, his eyes wide with astonishment.
"I—I don't know! (@—@;)"
Jane, covered in slime, had a dazed cursor on the screen. It paused for a moment, then said uncertainly.
"These worms—are they apologizing to me?"
"What do you mean?" Xin'an looked at the worm remains on the ground. "Jane, when did you become able to talk to worms?"
"Don't underestimate the great Lord Jane! (一一)バ" Jane spun around in mid-air, shaking off the slime on her shell. "Just like a princess in a fairy tale, who is born to talk to small animals, I, as a being that exists by relying on divine power, am born to understand the language of species that also use divine power."
It paused for a moment, and the cursor on the screen blinked.
"However, the worms of the past resisted communication; they didn't live long anyway, and once they left their host, they cut off my access path. But now—"
Jane approached the ground with a sense of doubt.
"There seems to be someone hiding inside—"
The metal box suddenly turned up the volume.
"It's Xinwu! Σ(°A°;)"
"Xinwu, are you in there? Please don't die!" (T--) Realizing what was happening, Jane immediately pounced down and carefully gathered the worms on the ground together. She frantically circled around, trying to find a cool, damp corner to keep the worms alive.
Just then, it stopped moving.
Jane tilted her head back, as if listening to some silent message.
"Huh? What do you mean you're not yourself? What do you mean you won't die? (@@:)"
Xin'an stood aside, watching Jane react with alarm to the wriggling worms all over the ground. Listening to its illogical questions and considering the wolf pack's unusual behavior, a guess had already formed in her mind.
But then they saw Jian suspended in mid-air, waving her arms and legs in the empty night wind.
"What do you mean I don't need to worry? I'm not worried about you!" (、口「)) A mountain of iron boxes ran around in a huff.
"You're the child! Your whole family are children! I wasn't crying just now!"
Xin An stood aside, watching Jian shouting at several nearly dead insects; the scene was quite bizarre.
No further information came from the surrounding area.
It was like punching cotton; the cursor on the screen twisted into a mess.
"My good intentions have been completely wasted! I'm abandoning you! (dies)"
It turned around angrily, its back to the pile of worms, and slammed itself onto the stone slab, looking like it was determined to never compromise and was sulking.
